A California winery is selling some bottles of the Cabernet Sauvignon that was submerged in Charleston Harbor for three months in the first phase of an experiment to determine the effect of ocean aging on wine.
The Mira Winery of St. Helena, Calif., says the ocean-aged "Aquaoir" will be sold to wine club members in a two-pack set starting Monday. It's paired with a bottle of the winery's land-aged Cabernet Sauvignon and is selling for $500 a set.
Mira is planning to age more wine in Charleston Harbor later this year. The next batch of ocean-aged wine will be submerged as soon as it is bottled in August or September and will likely remain in the harbor until May or June of 2014.
