UPDATE, 7A Friday Morning: The Ravenel Bridge is now open.

The Ravenel Bridge will remained closed throughout Thursday night.

According to a Mt. Pleasant town councilman, officials will be unable to assess the amount of ice on the bridge's cables until Friday morning.

Statewide Summary – Light snow is falling in some counties in the upstate and rain/freezing rain in the central/lower areas of the state. Most counties, with the exception of coastal areas and the southern part of District Seven, are reporting that roads and bridges are covered with snow and ice.  Crews in all Districts except District 6 continue to plow interstates and primary routes with all available snow plows. Temperatures are at or above freezing in much of the state. Interstate conditions are passable.  Primary and secondary roads in much of the state remain covered with significant amounts snow and ice.  Fallen trees are a significant problem, especially in District 7.  Travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary (emergencies). SCDOT forces are working continuously on rotating 12-hour shifts applying salt and other anti-icing/deicing materials.  Contract forces and local government partners are also assisting with snow removal operations in many counties.

 Equipment in use

 Engineering District 6 (Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Jasper Counties) – Temperatures in District Six are ranging between 32 and 38 degrees.  Weather conditions are being reported as rain, cloudy or clear.  Pavement conditions are reported as wet.  County crews are monitoring and treating routes and bridges, as necessary, with anti-icing and deicing materials and equipment.  Several counties have reported a large number of fallen trees and vegetative debris.

The Ravenel Bridge is closed due to ice falling from towers and cables.  All other bridges are open.
