SC ports head providing update on port activities

From the Associated Press:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Maritime leaders on the South Carolina coast are scheduled to get an update on the state's port activities.

South Carolina State Ports Authority president and CEO Jim Newsome is set to deliver his annual state of the port message on Tuesday to the Propeller Club of Charleston.

The state's ports are on a roll, with operating revenue, earnings and container volume all up for the fiscal year that ended June 30.

Last month, the authority brought online its new inland port in Greer, while studies are proceeding for deepening the harbor shipping channel from its current 45 feet to 50 feet. That project is expected to cost between $300 and $350 million.
