From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

Georgetown County authorities say a police vehicle was stolen Sunday morning during a foot chase in Georgetown County.

According to officials, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of mental commitment papers on a male patient who walked away from the Waccamaw Community Hospital Sunday morning. He was later seen walking down Highway 17 in the Murrells Inlet Community of Georgetown County.

After a brief foot chase, the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Camilo Quiroga Diaz, was able to gain access to the deputy's marked patrol unit vehicle and left the scene. Diaz was later taken into custody by the North Carolina Highway Patrol after leading officers on a chase from Georgetown County to Tabor City, North Carolina.

He was transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center and is charged with Grand Larceny and Failure to Stop for Blue Lights.

During the vehicle pursuit, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Horry County Police Department, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

This case is under administrative review as to the sheriff’s deputy’s actions before, during and after the vehicle was stolen.
