Mt Pleasant one step closer to banning texting while driving

From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

Mt Pleasant Town Council members voted 6-3 Tuesday night to ban texting while driving in the Town of Mt Pleasant.  It will become law if it passes a second reading in September.

Another ordinance that would have banned using  handheld electronic devices in automobiles did not pass first reading by a vote of 8-1.

Mt Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails says the town had to do something after state lawmakers failed to pass a statewide  ban.

Police Chief Carl Ritchie says this type of ban can be enforced  and does include more than just texting.
