From our News Partner WCBD-TV's Weather Center:
Tropical Storm Humberto continues to strengthen near the Cape Verde Islands and will likely become the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic season later today.
"Humberto still poses no threat to the United States," said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers just before the start of News 2 Today. "It does look quite impressive on satellite and shouldn't have any problem becoming a strong category one or category two hurricane."
In addition to Humberto, Tropical Storm Gabrielle has regenerated and will likely pass near or directly over Bermuda within the next 24 to 36 hours as a tropical storm. There are several tropical waves poised to roll off of the African continent over the coming days which will be monitored carefully.
"We also need to keep our eyes on the Caribbean, Gulf, and even off of our own coastline as this year's pattern is subject to produce development in these areas," added Marthers.
