From the Weather Center at News Partner WCBD-TV:
Humberto continues to strengthen just east of the Cape Verde Islands and is now the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic season.
"Humberto still poses no immediate threat to the United States," said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers just before the start of News 2 Today. "Based off of what we see right now, the storm will head north then turn west around the southern edge of the Bermuda High but may not be able to survive a more hostile environment early next week."
In addition to Humberto, Tropical Storm Gabrielle is passing near Bermuda as a tropical storm. There are several tropical waves poised to roll off of the African continent over the coming days which will be monitored carefully.
"We also need to keep our eyes on the Caribbean, Gulf, and even off of our own coastline as this year's pattern is subject to produce development in these areas," added Marthers.
