Hanahan Police K-9 dies in cruiser after training exercise

According to Lt. Michael Fowler, the department's K-9, 6-year-old Shadow, passed away Tuesday night after a training exercise.

Fowler says the cause of death has not been determined, but he believes it may have been an aneurysm or blood clot.

Lt. Fowler said Shadow began his service with the department in 2008 and became a highly valuable and relied upon asset of the department.

"During his time of service, he located a countless amount of narcotics and made multiple non-bite K-9 apprehensions," Fowler said. "K-9 Shadow was a valued member of this department with several accomplishments."

Shadow reportedly died around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the cruiser, following "bite exercises."
