SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. - A former Broome High School teacher has been arrested in Spartanburg County after being accused of a sex crime.
Jonathan Neil Dover, 34, is charged with Sexual Battery with a Student, according to deputies.
Spartanburg School District 3 officials were notified several weeks ago about a possible inappropriate relationship between the teacher and a student on campus. A warrant states the victim was 16 or 17 years old.
"School and district administrators were made aware of rumors by students of a possible inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student," a statement from the school explained. "We installed video surveillance immediately in the teacher's classroom and also initiated an investigation concurrently with our school law enforcement officer."
As a result of an internal investigation, Dover was allowed to resign on December 8. Authorities say school officials then notified the sheriff's office about the incident which led to the criminal investigation.
Dover is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing Wednesday night.
