Two kids were playing when they found the body near a playground at the park. They contacted their parents, who called police around 5:00 p.m.
The park is located just off Liberty Hall Road in Goose Creek. Right now the park is closed, and police have cordoned off portions of the park with police tape. Police say the park was closed to vehicle traffic today due to some recent vandalism.
Coroner Bill Salisbury tells News 2 that SLED is now on scene to help identify the man.
A SLED agent was already in the area for an unrelated issue. Salisbury says the SLED agent has a fingerprint scanning device on his phone that may be able to be used to quickly identify the man.
Kimberly Miller lives in Longleaf subdivision next to Dogwood Park. She says this discovery is shocking, "it's like a stone's throw from our house. It's kind of a scary thought, actually, that it was that close to us."
An autopsy is being performed. That is expected to be completed Thursday.
