BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. -
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating crash that killed two people in Marlboro County Tuesday afternoon.
According to the SCHP website, the crash happened at 1:25 p.m. near the intersection of SC 79 and SC 38.
The crash involved an 18-wheeler log truck and a pick up that hit head-on , L/Cpl Sonny Collins said.
Officials say that a 16-year-old boy and girl were killed in the crash.
Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the victims as Allison English and Jeremiah Dean Adams, both of Marlboro County.
Troopers say the crash happened when the logging truck was traveling south and a Mazda pickup truck was traveling north. The pickup truck crossed the center-line of the highway and the vehicles collided head-on, troopers said.
After the collision, which completely destroyed the car, the log truck drifted off into a field and caught fire. The entire cab of the log truck and part of the cargo was burned.
The driver of the log truck was not injured.
Troopers said that Adams was driving the pickup truck and that he was not wearing a seatbelt. English was wearing her seatbelt.
That Highway 79 was closed for about 2 hours after the crash.
